September 2025 Reports: AGM, Trustees, WSCT
September has been a busy month for Friends of the Scrubs, not only in terms of the usual vital volunteer activities organised by Kate McVay but also in terms of meetings. Please find attached here the minutes , prepared by Secretary Carmel McLoughlin, of the 2025 Annual General Meeting which was held on 18 September at Brickfields Hall.
The Friends of the Scrubs Trustees committee held a meeting on 22 September, two days before the Wormwood Scrubs Charitable Trust’s September meeting.
And lastly - here is a report from Sir Stephen Waley-Cohen of the WSCT meeting on 24 September. Sir Stephen and Faye Thomas are co-opted non-voting members of the WSCT.
Dear Friends,
The WSCT committee meeting was one of the shortest and least controversial that I can remember.
Please read this in conjunction with the notes from the FOWWS AGM and Trustee meeting.
And please excuse brevity due to typing difficulty with a broken arm!!
Masterplan contractor will be chosen shortly and start work – subject to weather – in early February. Tree planting will be held till next autumn.
Parade Ground/KAA site reinstatement on track for completion this year. Possible location for Ecology Centre. Talks with Ministry of Defence and Imperial College on this, and funding sought for feasibility study.
Kensington Dragons pitch works now complete. Delay in running track re-surfacing due to below ground undulations being assessed.
Braybrook Street play area upgrade about to start.
Separately, Trustee encouragement to proceed cautiously with hard paths has resulted in much reduced plans – see below from Osama.
.
The orange lines are suggested extensions (new features) while the yellow lines denote existing footpaths.
The final route and exact specification will be developed throughout the Masterplan implementation period, so the map below is only indicative
The extension of the existing footpath running from Braybrook street into the play area will be completed by the end of the calendar year. All other footpath improvements will follow completion of the AEM Masterplan capital works.
And we have achieved, with LBHF help, making the Scrubs – whose bye-laws prohibit both cycles and motor vehicles – a no-go area for Lime and Forest bike systems, through technology
Best wishes
Stephen Waley-Cohen
