FOWWS trustees meeting, 15 June 2026 and WSCT meeting 17 June.

Here is the report on the WSCT meeting of 17 June 2026 from Sir Stephen Waley-Cohen and Faye Thomas, co-opted representatives of FOWWS.

The WSCT meeting was quite brief, partly because of a World Cup football match that evening, but also because there were few items raising complex issues this time.

Stephen Waley-Cohen and Faye Thomas attended as FOWWS representatives and co-opted Members of the WSCT Committee.

The Ecological Masterplan was nearly ready to start, with some continuing negotiations with HS2, as funders, over the higher cost than originally allowed for.  SWC asked that details of the chosen contractor, and timing, and location of swales – shallow ditches to enhance drainage – b e provided as soon as it was appropriate to do so.

SWC asked that there be movement towards discussing the long-term of the Scrubs – i.e. a 20-30 year plan, taking into account the likely growth in local population with development plans, and the planned opening of the Old Oak Common station linking HS2 and the Elizabeth Line.   The Chair (Cllr Sanderson) confirmed that a Strategy meeting was intended to take place in the autumn, date to be advised.

The Committee approved a cost-of-living increase in the maintenance plan.   Bids for the contract for the next five years of maintenance are expected shortly, and SWC asked if FOWWS representatives could – as last time – be included in the review of bids submitted, which the Chair will consider.

Works on the Linford Christie Stadium track had started and should be complete by the end of July. 

Braybrook Streeet playground upgrade was almost completed and was agreed to be a very significant improvement.

Plans are being developed, with some external funding, for the enhancement of the BMX track (not widely known, but between Scrubs Lane and the Pony Centre).   This was welcomed as an important facility for young people.

The safety report was presented, but SWC commented that there continue to be issues with professional dog walkers being 2 or 3 together, making a pack of dogs;  the rules state that no more than 4 dogs should be in one group. He also commented on the use of the Scrubs by young people on electric and motor bikes, with no preventative enforcement really possible.  

Everyone was reminded that dangerous vehicle use or other dangerous threats of any kind should be reported directly to the Police on 999 in the event of an emergency or 101 if not an emergency.  All reports, issues and concerns can be sent to the Law Enforcement Team (not for immediate danger) on LET...@lbhf.gov.uk
